is my bp ready to pwn a rat?
okay, im currently thawing out a small rat, to weigh it.

the bp weighs around 450 grams.
the bp has a thick girth lol, i dont think it'll be a problem fitting in its belly, but the rat is just so long @_@... i'm kind of intimidated....

as i said, im about to weigh the rat after its thawed out, so i can see its fattyness as well lol.

just curious, when do u start feeding small rats? i just bought 1 small rat to see if there was a significant difference, and the rat is like 2x as big as the adult mice ive been feeding him lol...

    thanks in advance

EDIT: sorry for gamer lingo, i just realized.. pwn = eat... pretty much lol

Title of this thread made me LOL... :8:

Anyway, it's hard to know what you mean by "small rat". I've bought small rats from different vendors that were totally different sizes. Maybe post a picture of the rat next to the BP?

Also, what is he feeding on now?

Ha, I thought that was a typo and wondered why a BP would want to "own" a rat, LOL!

Yes, rats look so long, but Patriot's last 2 meals were 2 mice totalling 40g and around 4", which is the small 40g rat from Petco. He's 314g at the moment (literally weighed him just now), and if he'll increase that by 20g or 40, depending if he eats one or both mice I'm about to feed him. I think once we're done with the next mousey 4-pack, he'll move onto a small rat by the end of this month.

Oh whoops, guess I missed that part. Although, a rat that is 2x as large as an adult mouse, sounds closer to a rat hopper than the "small rats" that are in my freezer. But again, hard to tell without pics.

You could put the snake in a clear container and put the rat on a table next to him...

Well, you'd be surprised of what a snake can actually take down even if it seems huge. I remember feeding my Dumeril's boa a BIG rat crawler and she coiled, swallowed, and digested it like it was nothing.

I started feeding Candice small rats when she became a year and a half old. She seemed like she could definitely take it down because of her huge girth, so I thought, "Oh, what the heck." so I just went ahead and fed her that small rat. Ever since I've been feeding her rats she's been growing and growing. Now, I see that the small rat was A LOT better than feeding her two adult/large mice.

*Side Note- Rats are a lot better for snakes (more nutritional) and will definitely make your snake grow faster than keeping your snake on a diet of only mice. I've noticed that ever since I was feeding Candice rats (about 2-3 months ago) she grew a good 4 inches.

I feed some of my smaller BPs small - weanling rats with no problem, some I doubt are 450g but I haven't checked recently.
I just go by comparison in size and girth to the pray item.

haha i just switched to the "small rats" (they were huge for being called small) they had at petco and they were a little intimidating for constantine. I thought that he was gonna get owned by the rat and i was ready to grab it out and defend my baby but it turns out he was less wimpy than i thought he was. anyways the point is, while he was trying to swallow it he even had to spit it back out a little bit and take a different approach to the rattie, but ended up eating it anyways in the end with surprising speed.
