Try this experiment!! Nature/Moon cycles

This does apply to herps! Test your herps! Read on!

If you do a bit of research via Google you will find that there have been tests done to find out if animals and people alike follow the cycles of the moon. Like everything else in nature does. Tides, migrations, breeding etc..

Ive discovered by a little time keeping and calculations that my 03' female normal, cycles/ovulates during the full moon. We just had a full moon. On the day of the full moon my girl was suddenly swollen and laying around on her side. I pulled her out and sure enough, she's got follicles! Not surprisingly, she was ready to breed at the exact time of the year last year during the harvest moon (octobers full moon). Which came a little later in the month last year.

A bit more research told me that human women that are considered irregular, will almost always cycle during either the full or the new moon as well.

Most animals do too. So start keeping track of the moon cycles and write down dates your females are ovulating and producing follicles. Compare this to the full and new moon cycles. You may be surprised to find out you can calculate pretty much the exact date your females will be ready to breed every single year. Even if all your animals do not follow this rule. I bet some do.

Look into it and keep me posted. Im interested in knowing how many other peoples animals follow the moon cycles. It IS natures way :snake:

Also keep in mind that for reptiles this has not been proven to occur every single year. It has been proven that amphibians gather to breed on the full moon. Many other animals either ovulate or breep during the full or new moons depending on the animal.

If you happen to have a herp that just so happens to fall into this catagory it would make it easier to calculate when to breed. I know i'll be excited if come this time next year my 03' girl swells and is ready to go right when the full moon starts! Id consider 3 years in a row a good indication of being her normal "cycle".

well, oct 4 was the full moon, but late night on Oct 3, I paired my pinstripe with my second largest female and they were locked within the hour. perhaps there is something to this. I'll have to remember to check next year to compare notes.
