Which enclosure for a baby corn?
After a discussion on the "general herp" forum, I have decided that my next herp will be a corn snake... and of course now that I'm thinking about it, I'll probably end up getting one asap. I'm not known for my patience, LOL. :D My top choice (morph) would be a reverse Okeetee, and I'm actually trying to purchase this Aztec-patterned R.O. I saw on Fauna - just emailed earlier tonight, so hopefully the breeder will respond soon.

Anyway, I'm wondering if you could tell me which enclosure (of these two spare ones I have) is best for him/her? I will be getting a baby, and realize they'll have to be upgraded eventually... but for now I have this 15gal wood/glass tank with a ceramic lamp, and a 15qt Sterilite tub with UTH. My leopard gecko is currently living in the tub, but has also lived in the tank without any problems. So whichever one I use for the corn, the leo will get the other. Here are pictures of the two enclosures, and please let me know which is better for a baby corn. Can't wait to get him/her!! :)

The 15gal tank - Of course it will be thoroughly cleaned, and I can cover the lamp if a corn climbs that high (leos don't!)

And I'm sure you know what a 15qt tub looks like, but just in case you don't...

Yeah, I think I'm leaning towards the tub... but leos are much messier than BPs, and that tub is just so darned easy to clean! Of course, I'll go with what's best for them. ;) Approximately how long could a corn live in a 15qt? Probably getting a male, if that matters in terms of growth rate.

The tub for sure. Baby corns are escape artists, and with the sliding doors and holes in back, I wouldn't trust that larger enclosure. Once they get to be a bit larger, then you could move him into the display viv.

I don't like the little holes that the corn could get through on the cage...
Definitely the tub.. you should probably get that tape out of the cage though.

Wow, I didn't even think of the corn escaping! The holes and glass "gap" are very small, but apparently a baby corn could squeeze through anything.

Guess I should remove the tape, even though it's a very non-sticky (almost painter's) tape, which couldn't get stuck easily. What would you suggest instead, to keep that background on there? I just love those dinosaurs, LOL. :D

Its amazing what they can get through. My first ever cornsnake escaped close to once a month for the 1st year I had him. Every time I thought I had his cage sealed, he'd find a new way out.

Thanks everyone! I'll go with the tub, as you suggested, and the leo is already back in her tank. Now I just need to find a darned snake... for some reason, I'm not getting responses from anyone I've contacted (about 4-5 breeders). And the one who did respond was sold out, so I don't seem to be having good luck.

The tub would be a lot less stressful once the snake has arrived from a stressful trip to your place. I would definitely put the Corn snake in the tub. It would be a lot less stressful in the tub rather than in that big 15gal. That 15g looks pretty high up so I'm not too sure if that would stress the snake out but I wouldn't take any chances.

Thanks Tiff! ;) Btw, the breeder I've been anxiously waiting to hear back from finally responded... said he's been out of town, but his wife will email individual pics of them tomorrow. They're "Aztec Reverse Okeetees" and just beautiful!! Here's the ad: http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/foru...everse+okeetee (pictured third)
