Superworms

Does anyone keep these in large quantities (for beardies, leos, etc.)? I have both adult leos and a bearded dragon, and I'm tired of going to Petco and digging through the containers of Supers trying to find one that has the fewest dead worms.

What's the best place to buy Supers online? If I purchased 1000, what sort of container would I need to keep them in? Any recommendations from people that keep and/or raise their own Supers?

You can keep them on rolled oat substrate or something similar and feed/water them with potato pieces. They don't draw fruit flies like other types of foods do and generally just dry up rather than rot.

Where's the best place to buy them in bulk? Any recommendations?

do you need help on breeding them to. i breed them for my moniter. once you get startede there super easy to multiply.

I went ahead and purchased a 1000 from Flukers. Not too bad... I have them in a decent sized tub with rolled oats. I need to try to potatoes... I've been using carrots but have to clean them out periodically.

Call me crazy, but I'm actually kind of enjoying raising them. I hate bugs, but these guys aren't too bad. I haven't let any of them pupate yet---because I hate bugs, I'm a little afraid of myself being able to handle the beetle form---but we'll see.

I have mealworms in wheat bran. The wheat bran can be bought in 40 lb bags at feed stores(to make bran mash for horss usually) for about $10. The mealworms(or superworms since you asked specifically), can be kept for a long time in the bran, fed(watered technically) with slices of apple, potato, carrot.. etc.

There's a lot of places to order online. I like Armstrong's myself. If you find mini's for sale cheaper, you can grow them to huge in short order. I got mini's by mistake at a show, and now they are HUGE. No smell to speak of, they can't climb smooth plastic bin sides, and they don't chirp. Can't go wrong.

The only problem with mealworms is keeping them refridgerated... or do you keep them at room temp?

Mine are not refriderated, and stay at about 80F or higher since they are in the snake room.
