new england whale watching...

all in all a good time. i didn't get the whale photos i wanted, but oh well. the first time whale were spotted 90 percent of the boat was on the sides looking. the next time, about 30 percent...the other 70 including me where puking their brains out.

Whale watching is great, they are probably my favorite critter...too bad I can't keep one in my apartment! Many years ago we were on a whale watch, well, just heading out really, when the captain got a call from a rescue group about an entangled North Atlantic Right whale. He had been spotted but they would not be able to get to him for hours so they asked our captain if he could go verify the situation and keep tabs on the whale. What a day! We found him and spent 6 hours of our 4 hour tour babysitting him. We left shortly after the rescuers arrived but learned on our way back that they had successfully cut the lines and he was free. Truly an amazing experience. They are endangered (almost extinct :( ) and normally not seen on a regular whale watch. Needless to say, that was the best whale watch out of many that I have been on!

i kinda wanted to go again, but my time is now very limited.

up in main i drove hundreds of miles looking for a moose and as we were leaving my family's camping cabin, one walked across the road and onto their property.

Love the New England! Its so photogenic and their many quaint fishing towns and all of that, right now and next few days will be awesome with the leaves turning.

Can't wait until late winter so i can taste the very fresh syrup!

Great pics. thanks a ton for sharing, and thanks for getting out there to see these animals in person! EVERYONE should do this at least once in their lifetime.

Humpbacks are probably one of my very most favorite whales, next to the North Atlantic Right Whale. ( Then Minkes)

If you go to the website of the fleet you were watching from, they may have identification pictures that you can compare the Flukes with, as well as the Dorsal ( And markings on their backs sometimes) Lots of the whales are named :)

I got whale watching ALOT, because i truly enjoy learning as much as i can about these magnificent creatures. Its fun when you can ID them!! They usually talk about who the animal sired, and who is parents and grandparents are and suchlike. REALLY interesting stuff!!!
