Insecticides

Is it safe to use aerosol insecticides such as anti-mosquito sprays (ex: Raid, Baygon, Off, etc) on a snake room? Living in a tropical country, mosquito bites are becomin one of the main concern when it comes to health. Hope someone can shed some light on this topic. :)

I'm not too sure about that--however, I can totally sympathize with you on that because whenever I go to Costa Rica the mosquitos there are almost like they're pumped up with steroids.

What we usually do is first check for any cracks/holes/tears in the screens where mosquitos may gain entry, seal'em up, then raid-bomb the bedrooms and leave it alone for 2 days (we have to rotate where we sleep,) then we hang up mosquito nets (there are some really cool ones, where it's connected to the door frame, and entry is through a line of velcro down the middle) at the door.

Just for your snakes I'd recommend the mosquito nets you hang--the thing with bug spray, if it's safe at all, is that it's only a temporary solution to a very long term problem. So you'd end up having to spray it often.

No, it's not safe. Most insecticides are designed to kill ectotherms, and snakes are ectotherms. Many of those products are quite toxic to reptiles, as well as to insects.
Only Provent-A-Mite has been approved for use around reptiles. I would screen the mosquitos out carefully, but confine the insecticides to areas outside of the snake room--and wash hands carefully after contacting those chemicals.

I have no idea whether provent-a-mite treatment will impact mosquitos, or whether you can get it in the area where you live. It is toxic when wet, though (and so are the fumes), and only safe for reptile contact after it is dry.

i was reading this thinking tropical? it says your from canada lol
im sure pretty much every bug spray is pretty toxic to reptiles.

DDT is something that repels mosquitos doesnt kill them you basically spray it around your yard and it doesnt last long, but also its very toxic to alot of animals and isnt sold in the US or many other countries. there is also some areas where the mosquito is immune to DDT

Oh about my location, my work is based on Canada but Im residing here in the Philippines.:)

Im thinking of removing my rack from my room to bombard it w/ some water based insecticides, then seal ofF any possible entry ways of insects. Then after a week or 2, Ill be returning my rack to the room. Do you guys think this is a good idea?

I think that'll be okay but let's see what everyone else says--make sure you put up a mosquito net/screen at your door so they don't sneak in when you go in to take care of them!

Or if you're gonna wait that long, the mosquitos will most likely already have died by then. So it may not even be necessary.
