rat pinks or pups?

This Saturday will be my first time attempting to feed the two new BPs my sisters and I bought last weekend. One weighs 63 grams and the other weighs 68 grams. Should I go with pinks or pups? TIA.

"Pinks" (either mouse or rat) are usually too small for any BP... you should be able to start them on mouse hoppers or rat fuzzies/pups. My smallest baby weighed about 80-85g before feeding, and devoured a mouse hopper with gusto. :gj:

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking pups as well, but our snakes are a little light so i wanted some opinions. Also, does 63 and 68 grams sound too light for babies that are one and two months old, respectively.

those sound pretty tiny. either rat fuzzys or hopper mice if you get a really shy feeder you might have to go with just fuzzy mice

Hoppers.

Ask for particularly small hoppers.

Hmmm. Maybe my scale is off...? I just bought it the other day at Target for $30. I figured it would be decent quality, but who knows.

Rat peach fuzzies--just getting their 5-o-clock shadow. You want a little more mobility than a pinky. An older fuzzy might be intimidating. They grow SO fast that it only takes one or two meals to get them to where fully furred fuzzy rats are just the right size.

Hopper mice are the same size as older peach fuzzies. If they don't like the rat, try a mouse.

Eyeball it--the prey should be as big around as the widest part of the snake. My tiny babies get younger rats, the larger babies get bigger ones. I would probably give a younger fuzzy to the 63 gram snake, and a fully furred fuzzy to the larger one.

It does sound a bit small, but I'm no expert... my three baby boys were born in July, and all weigh between 98-108g now.

Sounds good! If they don't take to whatever you get, try the other (mouse vs rat) a week later... it took me nearly a month to figure out that my first BP, Delilah, ONLY likes mice - and live ones, preferably. :rolleyes: Once I figured that out, she became an eating machine!
