motley/stripe are simple recessive. However they are at the same locus and are allelic to each other with motley being dominant to stripe.
I really don't like the term motley stripe because the nomenclature can get confusing. Some people use motley stripe to indicate that the snake has one copy of the motley allele and one copy of the stripe allele. Others use it to descripe a phenotype of the snake w/o regards for the genetic make up.
In your case, I'd just call it a motley. You could call it a q-tip motley as some of its motley pattern resembles the shape of a q-tip, so that's where that name comes from. But if I hatched it out and was labeling it, I'd just call it a motley.
That's easily probably one of the top 5 nicest motleys I've ever seen. He's super duper smoking!

yeah the old q-tip, you get pin stripe and zipper versions too.. but thats mainly you guys over there.. we just call there motleys, stripes or motley stripes.
all above is obvsiouly true, probably knows more than me to be honest.. i do the involving side rather than the reading up on science bit. i really should know a lot more :(

Do you know what the parents were? Would make the determination easier.
I've always liked the motley stripe nomenclature, it's the HETS from those that get confusing.
You have motley, stripe, or motleystripe.
mm ss or ms.
Recessive genes. So when you breed a motley stripe to a normal pattern, what do you get? You do NOT get an animal het for motleystripe, as one animal can only give ONE copy of genes at the same locus, so you have an animal het for motley OR stripe. Not both.
All that we DO know at this point, while it LOOKS like a motleystripe, is that it does NOT look like a stripe. They tend to be devoid of the q-tipping.

god all that motley stripe stuff always gets me..
i produced some snakes this year, they were a crappy stripe to a het stripe.. loads of other morphs involved too, but for now just the patterns..
i got full stripe, full motleys, and cubes. have had te same for 2 years with this clutch, i get some really amazng results.
