P/K Question

I have been reading throught the countless threads and posts over the last few months on dispatching rats and mice. I have seen people suggest everything from the CO2 chambers to "whacking", etc... Why has no one ever suggested the most tried and true method that has been around for many years? It's quick, efficient, and cheap. What am I talking about? Simply putting a rat trap baited with cheese in a small tub, insert rat in tub, wait for snap. There you go. One pre-killed rat ready to be fed to snake... Just a thought I had...

I think it would still be easier and quick just to put it in a sack then whack it!

hehe, well that could very well mutilate the mouse/rat body, and I don't think most people want that.

Besides, it's not convenient for killing masses of them.

Snap traps do not always ensure a quick humane kill.

I had a rodent problem in a house I lived in a few years back. One night we finally managed to trap the sucker and it was much bigger than thought. The mouse trap had moved about 2-3 feet during the struggle. It's definitely not a quick or humane way to kill a rodent.

I guess I dont understand the whole trying to be PC about rat killing. I love all animals, but it is the circle of life. In the wild when lion or alligators kill a zebra, it does not look very humane to me, but it is needed to sustain life. I like to hunt also, and I doubt shooting a deer is the most humane way to do it, but it has been done for centuries. I have been to :cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r: (rooster) fights, definately not humane, but I consider chickens food. Constriction from the snake is not a painless way to die, but thats how they do it. Stunning, gassing, whatever you do to kill them is not painless, but it has to be done for survival of the snake. I think you should do it however works best for you. There will never be 100% agreement on any method of killing.

There is a better method that has been around even longer than the mouse trap and more efficient, its called a snake, a little more expensive than the mouse trap, but way more interesting.

While I do see the point of the rodents being food, bred & raised to be food, what reason is there to have unnecessary suffering for the animal? A snake kills much faster than a mouse trap that may or may not cause a mortal wound on the rodent depending on its position when the trap is triggered. At the very least you run the risk of having a bloody mess to clean up.

IMHO feed live or feed f/t unless you have a method you are comfortable with to kill the rodent quickly, cleanly & efficiently. Personally I go with f/t for convenience, no mice to feed or weekly trips to buy them.

I've had rats get trapped by one foot, by the tail, even lose part of a their tail wiggling after the trap snapped.

What's so difficult about ensuring a clean death for the food of your snake?

Get a CO2 container, fill it up, get a plastic tub and you're done. Total investment maybe 25.00.

THIS. OR feed live. Theres another thread that discusses this pretty in depth. Like stated above by other posters, snakes are around to kill and consume rodents. Honestly, when done correctly feeding live is a perfectly acceptable way of getting food to a snake.

If you dont want to feed live, you can always try F/T.
