Wow!, and I thought my 38 gram mouse was huge,

With mice like that, who needs rats?

Well rats grow up faster than mice. That female is 5 months old and has had 5 litters. Rats are her size in i believe 5-6 weeks.

Be nice if all my mice were this size.

Wait, she is 5 months old and has already had 5 litters? Females shouldn't be bred until they are at least 3 months old and I'm not sure what genetics are behind that mouse or if she is just obese, but I just can't see a 5 month old mouse reaching that kind of weight. My largest 5 month old mouse was maybe 25-30g.

Every animal gorws at its own rate just like snakes. Not all 5 month old mice should be 20-25 grams. She was big from day one and has stayed big. Her mother who is 77grams is 11 months old.

She may be obese but she still produced 16 pinkies every 3 weeks on the dot when bred. once they drop below 10 babies per litter i retire them.

and i dont go by 3 months for mice at all. 6 weeks their sexually mature and ready for mating.

Well technically humans are sexually mature during their teens, but that doesn't mean they are ready for breeding.:D

To each their own I guess, but 6 weeks seems really young for a mouse to start breeding. Males, maybe, but females I like to wait until they are at least 12 weeks old before breeding them.

She is one big girl that is for certain. I'm wondering if its a genetic thing since you say her relatives are big. Have you tried figuring out if it is genetic or if they are just really big eaters? If it is genetic, then send some of her offspring my way!

I think it may be genetic as my mice at 4 weeks old are already 15-20 grams. Pinkies are born at 2 g each.

Re: Post your Biggest Breeder Female Mouse
Well I just went up and weighed all my female mice. My breeder females are 23g, 27g, and 31g (who I think is pregnant). The two youngest agouti are 6g and 8g. They are 3.5 weeks old. Very small as they were runts. Then I have 3 4-week old females. They are 11g, 12g, and 17g. The 17g girl is a surprise. I didn't think she was that big, but she is. :)

Re: Post your Biggest Breeder Female Mouse
I can't wait to start breeding rats. I've got 3 snakes that eat rats. The others could eat rat weans or small rats but I don't have enough space to breed rats right now. I've only got one breeding female.

If you keep producing those big mice, you might have to send me some. :)
