Buying hides made for snakes at pet stores is too much money, but you could go to the pet store and buy dog dishes that can be flipped over and cut a hole into it. That's what I plan on doing sometime this week if I get the chance to go to the pet store. Though, if they allow snakes at the pet store, I would suggest you bringing one of your adult BPs and one of your baby BPs to see what sizes fits best. Getting the regular plastic dog dishes do not cost a lot at all, and is fairly cheap.

If the dog dishes are not big enough for the adult BPs, try looking at litter boxes. Those normally work pretty well for adult BPs, and most already have a hole in them so you don't even need to cut a hole into it you can just flip it over and there you go.

Flower pots are also a great selection. You can find them at any gardening store. I would check Home Depot for them because they will most likely have them for a pretty cheap price.

Half log hides do not make your snake feel that secure at all, so I wouldn't suggest on wasting your money on them. Make sure if you buy a hide that it only has one entrance, this way the BP feels more secure.

I went to the dollar store and bought a set of 3 plastic bowls for $1, cut an entrance in 2 of them (warm and cool sides), then smoothed out the rough cuts with the small flame of a lighter. Works great and is super easy to clean!

I would say that those people have very little knowledge about keeping snakes, especially BP's, and not to adopt that practice, assuming you want to be a successful owner and keep a healthy, happy snake. I use flower pot planters pretty much. I knocked off the edge by hitting it with a hammer on a screwdriver. it works very well, it is aesthetic as well.

If you're using a high visibility set up like a tank or a tub without a rack system 2 hides would be beneficial to the snake. However I use racks and some of my snakes do not need hides, some need one and others need both. Each snake will vary on its requirements to feed consistently for you.
