Caramel Albino Pricing

I've been watching pricing of caramel drop from $2000 & up for a hatchlings last year and this year I've seen adult males for $1300 from jnjreptile, which is almost a 40% drop in price. I under stand the prices drop each years, but a 40% drop just seems crazy.

I've been working on some caramel projects, but I have a feeling by the time I reach my goals within 2 or 3 years Caramels will be the same price as ghost. I know normal albinos have held there price around $500 each year, so why can't caramels hold their value?

I wanted to hears some feedback on this.

Maybe the tendency to kink is effecting prices.

I think its because as a new morph starts to become more common and more people are able to make them the price drops. Not only caramel albinos but all morphs. Plus these days people are not able to spend 2000 on a snake. Breeders also are trying to sell the snakes so they arent stuck feeding them and holding on to them. The only good thing is being recessive that will hold the prices at some point rather than dom where the prices are dropping even lower. Not good for the breeder but good for the buyer.

Just like everything else it has the initial shock value to it then the prices will gradually fall. most will hit a minimum price and stay around that price for a while. Its supply and demand.

I think it's mostly due to supply and demand, as well as the kinking issues. Prices are up and down depending on where you look. If you look hard enough, you will find that $500 albinos are selling for $300....and have been for a few years. Pieds have come down 50% since last year. That sucks for me because I have lots of pieds. lol. Breed what you like and don't worry so much about $$$$.

Join the club. I finally produced my first Pied this year. The price on pieds has come down so much that the pied I produced would sell for less then I originally paid for my female het. I think the prices of the Caramels are going to come down even more with the availability of the Ultramels on the market. Even though it's not the same morph, there are a lot of similarities.

Mark, I think you are right on that too. Ultramels are going to take the new spotlight for some time. Hopefully the genetic blunders aren't seen in them as they are in caramels.

As for Pieds, I paid $4k for my het pair in 2003. Sold my first Pieds in 2005 for $4k each, and they've only come down since. I've seen no whites for $800 this year. Five years ago they still would have fetched $3500-4000.

If it helps make any sense of things, you could get caramel albinos wholesale last fall for $800.

Its supply and demand and a bad economy. As more supply becomes available, prices will fall. Couple that to a bad economy where buying snakes is not on the top of people's to do list and you have prices falling fast.

I think ultramels will take over and make caramels obsolete if no genetic defects show up (which to my understanding, none have as of yet).
