Adopted Argentine BW Tegu and Enclosure Pics
I got my new camera and flash, so I decided it's time to take some pics. This Argentine female was adopted from a friend, he was looking for someone to give her a good home. She is really digging her new enclosure!

    Enjoy!

And of course, the Tegu. She's a female Argentine Black and White, and she's an absolute sweet heart.

You have done a nice job making that enclosure very attractive! The tegu is gorgeous as well! Congrats!

Now all you have to do is make a new enclosure that will fit about four of that one inside it! It is waaaaaaay too small for her. 6x3x3 at least and 8x4 being optimal.

A lizard (especially ones as active as monitors and tegus) should not be housed in enclosures where their nose touches one end and the tail tip is only inches from the other end. Stick with your current design (I really like the sides and back), provide lots of substrate and make it huge! She'll have a great life then.

That's a really nice looking Tegu. The look of the enclosure is fantastic, but as Chris said it's a bit small. It's one of the nicest looking designs I've seen though.

    Thanks guys.

The enclosure she has lived her whole live in was 1.5 ft by 3 ft, so I was happy to get her upgraded to a 2 ft by 4 ft enclosure. In the past I had a very large male that I kept in a 3x6x3 enclosure, but he was over 3.5 ft long. This girl is about 2.5 feet, I think her previous owner may have stunted her growth.

    Thanks for the input.

    Hi Chris,

I'm sorry that you feel that way. I should have taken a picture of the enclosure she was in before, so that you might feel differently. All her needs, temperature, UVB are met. She also gets the run of the apartment every day.

In the future she will have a larger enclosure, but this will have to do for the time being. I have seen reputable breeders house much larger monitors in 3x6 cages, when scaled to her length, this enclosure is much larger.

    Thanks for your input,

I'm glad she's getting out daily, as mine does. My female is in an 8x4 with regular outings as well.

The problem is that not all of her needs are being met. Opportunistic feeders like tegus hunt daily, occupying most of their day. There is no "room" to allow for this natural behavior. I'm glad she is being "upgraded" later, try to make it as soon as possible.

Thanks for your input, Chris. As soon as I buy a house, I will get a 3x6 enclosure or even an indoor walk-in terrarium setup.

Nice looking tegu! Cage looks nice!

Is it just me or is the cage way too small? A tegu would need a lot more room than that!
