Rat rack question

So I built my first rat rack using cat litter pans, it looks satisfying and I'm on the finishing steps. I'm building it 3 wide and 7 tall. The thing is in the middle row I get a gap between the edge of the litter pan and the mesh wich is something like 05.-0.6cm (1 inch = 2.54cm).

So the real question is, do I need to put something on the sliders to elevate the litter pan toward the mesh? I have no idea how much or little room rats need to escape. The rack is supposed to host both breeding groups and nursing mothers, so it needs to be escape proof for little ones as well.

with a gap like that they will chew through....you have to keep the gap is minimal as possible..post a pic if you can...i have built a few with the cement tubs and going to build one with the cat litter pans..

If my math is close, that's about 1/4 inch. You should be ok with that but a pic would help.

i was thinking a inch gap....if its 1/4 gap you should be ok but its amazing where those teeth can get into...once they start your in for trouble..
