i see everyone talking about quarantining their animals when they get new ones in. my question is do you guys go ahead and put them in the racks they are going to be perm. housed in or do you have a specific quarantine cage. Also what am i alooking for if i quarantine a snake?

Well me personally I just have them set up in my living room in various spots with uth's and tubs but you could have a special rack to keep new arrivals in on qt. Just be sure that rack if ever used as a permanant home is not in the same room with the others in your collection while on qt and that once cleared from qt that it is sanatized and cleaned very well to kill any bacteria and or viruses. What to look for while having snakes or snake on qt are mites, RI's and anything that seems to be out of the norm for a normal, healthy ball python. I.E. runny poo, bubbles from the mouth or nostrills, wheezing sounds or popping sounds when they breathe I am sure there are a few more I am missing.

I use separate quarantine cages well away from my collection in another room. I pre-treat the quarantine cage with flat paper towel bedding. I treat the enclosure with Equate bedding spray (same ingredients as PAM but less expensive).

I only have Pythons so I quarantine for 30 days, but if you have other species you may want to go 90+days. As long as there are no mites or sickness, I allow the new snake into my collection at the end of 30 days. If there are mites or anything suspect- the snake I get the snake healthy & it's 30 days from the time THAT is done. This method has worked well for me.
