substrate?

I am using Aspen but have noticed it gets quite bacteria-ish really quickly. What is perhaps a better solution to this, keep in mind I mist often due to how dry it is where I live in canada.

Newspaper or paper towels.

Cypress mulch. Or switch to a tub :)

is the tank ventilated enough?? If its not then yes this could cause mold.

If you have a tank with a screen lid, I suggest you should cover a little more than half of it with a warm damp towel or a plastic sheet. You could also duct tape the lid. If you use a UTH, duct tape the entire lid and cut out a square maybe 5-6 sq. inches so the snake can breathe. I'm sure this will keep in the humidity when you mist. You also switch over to tubs if you do not use them. They are pretty light weight and great for holding in humidity. Though, you also can switch over to Cypress Mulch (as stated before) because it retains in humidity very well. Also, Coconut Husk and Bark Chips retain in humidity very well too.

a tub isnt an option right now, first of all I hate how they look and second of all I am broke as a joke, I do realize the major upsides like heat and humidity control and ease of use in terms of keeping it clean and such but I cant afford another uth and the tub. It looks like I will try the cyprus mulch bedding. Does it mold as well or?.....

Doesn't mold at all no matter how many times you mist it. Though, it's best to not get it really wet all you need to do is just lightly mist it. And tubs are actually very cheap, and you could also take off the UTH and reuse it but you'd have to be careful when attempting to do so because you could ruin the UTH. There is a thread on here that shows you how to take it off so search the forums. Also, there are tubs that are very clear and you can see in the tub perfectly. I know the look of it isn't nice, but it is a total money saver, I guarantee you.

oh I dont deny that it is the optimal route but I guess I will see what size I need and how much it would cost. How big does a tub need to be for a 1-2 month old baby?

I'm not normally clear on tub sizes, but maybe a 12q or 24q (someone correct me if that is too small/big).
