Transporting My BP Acroos the Country
Hey everyone! I just got a job in Colorado and will be moving there from Michigan in about a week. There's no way that I wouldn't take my precious baby 2ish year old ball python with me. I was just wondering if anyone has any tips for traveling with him. I was planning on putting his tank in my backseat and just leaving him in it. He seemed to be content when I brought him home like that (3 hr drive). No AC and keeping the car warm. I also am spending the night in a hotel in which I will bring him.
Thanks,
Sarah:snake:

He should be fine, as long as the temps stay above 75* and below 100*.
Re: Transporting My BP Acroos the Country
put it in a snake bag and tie it off or use a plastic rubbermaid tub.

What's a snake bag?

A muslin or linen bag (or pillowcase). Basically any cloth bag that you can put a snake in.

He will be fine in the tank or anything you put in as long you provide heat packs. They are very cheap and easily found in walmart.
I transported my snake in the tank when I moved from NC to Utah. I put my heat pack in a sock, tie it off and put in the hide. I also removed water bowl so it won't slosh around and splash into aspen bedding. I never had any problem at all.
When you are staying in the hotel, make sure you bring the snake in with you all the time, try to be discreet about it because some hotels do not like that.
Good luck :)

yep... and also they will feel more comfortable because they are all squished up against it. My friend transported his RTB, Burm, and ball like that from Michigan to Florida when he moved here.

A pillowcase. :) Cotton so it breaths. Best not to transport the snake in a glass tank, just in case something happens. Pack up the tank and bring the snake in a bag inside a nice snug rubbermaid tub. When in the hotel, you can place the tub over a human heating pad for some warmth and place a water dish in with him. :) I got that advice when I asked the same question.
Now then...
You got a job out here?? Where?? How?? We've been searching and searching and may well be moving away because we can't find work.
Good luck out here. CO is very nice. :)

Thanks! The heat packs and pillow case in a container is the way I think I'm going to go unless he seems unhappy in there. I will make sure they can't burn him because I'm paranoid about burns. When I adopted him he had 3rd degree burns because his previous owner put unprotected heat lamps in his cage. He's thriving now...has the best appetite ever.
The job is for Americorps so really it's like getting paid to volunteer and it's only for 10 months.

Ah. Oh well, money is money. :) Good luck with it. CO is a great state to live in...just not very prosperous right now.
