best to use ultratherms in larger cages. and if you can keep the room tmep arount 77-78 you wont need a heat lamp for the cool side. i always kept my boas a 77-80 cool side and 88 warm side

yes you can but zoo med is more expensive and dont last as long as ultratherms. I got ultratherms pushing 10 years old and still going.

but with ultratherms they are more expensive and i have to buy a thermostat. and they dont get hot enough to put on the outside of the cage.

with larger cages i always put the ultratherms inside the cage sealed down.

Heres some pictures of what i do. And i use Hot glue to glue the thermostat probe to the ultratherm. Just never use tape in the enclosure. I always use hot glue

okay so your saying i should buy an ultratherm? i can use my current thermostat. it has one more probe left in it to plug something in.

if you already have a thermostat then yes you can use that one if the t-stat is set the same temp for the boa.

Just zoo med is expensive but good for tanks not cages. Ultratherms are basically felxwatt sealed to be water proof to a degree. I use hot glue to seal it in to stop pee to get under anything. I went through about 2 bags of glue sticks for that cage.

okay not to make you mad or anything but this is starting to stress me out. i just am trying to spend the cheepest amount possible and i feel like i wont even have enough for the snake! and i just realized that i dont even know where the heck im going to put the 4 foot cage. i have to buy a rheostat or somehting or i have to think this over whether or not i can do this. im starting to lean towards a ball python now. its rediculous.
okay so this is how my setup is going to be:

    -animal plastics cage(4x2x1.5)

-ultratherm heat pad on one side of the cage, glued down on each corner with hot glue, attached to a thermostat or rheostat.

    -newspaper

    -2 hides
    -water bowl

-actual snake(dont even know where the hell im getting it.)

im really starting to lean towards a ball python. i feel like i am going to go broke buying all this crap. the cage is what costs so much and the stupid heating crap is making me mad. i just think there is a chance i will get a ball python instead.
