Need help
ok, so my cousin's bf found a turtle (or tortoise) outside of a park (no water around), that I believe was a former pet of someone. they only kno that my sister likes animals, so they dropped it off to her, but shes kinda stalling going to the vet, and she is NOT very responsible with pets LOL. i WILL take over depending on my findings here. idk wut kinda of turt or tort it is, but i will post a pic. rite now shes keeping it OUTSIDE, but idk if it needs heat, or wut it needs to have for food, or how big of enclosure it needs, if anyone knos a tort / turt forum, point me in THAT direction, or somone post here.
just need basics. im gona vet it this weekend when i can, but idk a thing about them. (except that its cute =D)
pics coming in a min

Re: Need help
From that picture, it *appears* to be a Russian Tortoise, which is one of the more common species of pet tortoises. A few more pictures from different angles would make that easier to confirm, though. Here is a nice caresheet from the World Chelonian Trust, they also have many articles and caresheets on their site about other species of turtles and tortoises, and a gallery that may help you make a positive ID on which one you have.

Re: Need help
I'd agree that it looks like a Russian Tortoise. I took care of three one summer. I don't know what their permanent habitats were like but I just had them in tubs with dirt as a substrate and a water dish. That's what the owner had me put them in the two females in one and the male in another. They ate romaine lettuce and he said they also enjoy dandelion leaves. Good luck with the research and the vet visit, those tortoises are awesome!
