    Feeding and weight loss
August 10 my snake weighed 160 grams and yesterday 107 grams. I have been feeding it an adult sized mouse every Saturday. The last couple Saturdays though the mice have seemed a little smaller than normal. Should I feed my snake 2 mice a week or keep on feeding one a week? Is feeding my snake smaller sized mice for the last few weeks the reason for the weight loss?

have you kept track of pee and poops. If they poop on regular basis they will loose wait to where it looks like they havent gained any.

If your doubting everything take in a fresh stool for a fecal float done to the vet to check for parasites.

at 160 grams you can be feeding adult mice every 3-5 days. at 100 grams you can feed sm adults every 3 days

I went ahead and fed him a second mouse just now and he coiled it within seconds like he is still starving.

Dont feed just cause you think hes hungry. Just feed him one properly sized mouse every 3 days. Keep in mind hatchlings are growing faster and will eat more than a larger ball.

All hatchlings i feed are every 3 days till they begin refusing meals. i then move them to 7 days.

I don't mean to sound stupid but what is a properly sized mouse. A couple of weeks ago when I went to purchase a mouse the biggest one they had was small. They even said they were out of adult sized mice except for a pregnant female. So today I purchased 2 of them because I just don't think the smaller ones were filling him up. I will take your advise and feed every 3 days instead of 2 at a time but is this considering a properly sized mouse or the smaller sized ones I have been feeding him the last couple of weeks.

Properly sized is a prey item the same thickness as the widest part of the pythons body. like i said at that size one sm adult or adult mouse is perfect size right now.
