Sneak Peak or Patience! Which one are you?
So this little one pipped early this morning and I was so tempted to cut myself a little window so I knew what I was dealing with... patience prevailed and I left the little one as is and hopefully when i get home I'll have a nice surprise.

My question to you... Do you have the patience to wait it out? Does it depend on what you might think it is? Or maybe you didn't get to the pip and cut already!

I prefer to wait it out. I have cut in the past, and with no real benefit other than satisfying my own curiosity. Decided last season that cutting was a process that I wanted to stop; I figure its healthier for the hatchlings to find their own way out of the egg. I also avoid messing with them at all before their first shed, and do all my sexing and separating once they have all shed out as a group. I found the first feeding responses have been stronger in hatchlings I have treated this way.

    Great poll IMO!

    Last year, definitely sneak peak.
This year only on a few clutches did I open my presents early.
So I guess I'm getting some patience.
    Still hard to do sometimes.
I blame the wife , she's such an enabler :)

I did not vote simply because I don't fit in either category.

I cut but it has nothing to do with impatience or needing to know, because if it was the case I could cut way earlier then I do, I just cut because a few years back I saw some hatchlings that had drowned due to their inability to make their way out on their own.

Is this common? Probably not, but as someone who breeds I put all the chances on my side, which is why I also incubate artificially rather then using maternal incubation.

Matter of fact I have 3 clutches in the incubator that I just cut yesterday and I just did a VERY small cut and didn't even look. (I always do small cuts and enlarge as they get ready to emerge.

    Makes perfect sense Deborah!

The cutting option in the poll was not meant to imply that all the cutters, cut for the sole purpose of finding out if they hit the odds.
As you stated past experience and/or preference are key motivators in those that do cut their clutches.

Maybe a mod can toss an "Other" or "I cut for another reason" on the poll! :)

I went with 'I've already cut and posted pictures' because it's technically true, but I only cut because they were having difficulty getting out (I let the eggs get a bit dry). Finding out what I got was just a bonus.

Mine is the same reason as Deborah's. We both witnessed these hatchlings that had drowned (pinstripes, no less, which were worth quite a bit more back then). All life is precious, even if it's a normal, it was sad to see two otherwise healthy babies dead in their eggs with the veins all stripped off the egg from them trying to get out.

I know it won't be until 2015 when I see some eggs. I will be incubating at 89 and cutting on day 58 unless I get a pipper before then. I will control every variable that I can including making sure no one drowns in an egg. I'm shooting for 4 different Mystic Potion combos and leaving very little to chance.
