    Flexwatt Question
So after making the jump after getting fed up with my heat cord I have ordered heat tape and the components for it although there is no wire on their site so I was wondering what everyone uses for connecting wire between strips of tape? Ive googled it and gotten several different suggestions some of which seem pretty questionable. Im going to be chaining them so they all run off of one plug in.

You can get a wiring kit from Reptile Basics. If you are uncertain, I would suggest not wiring it yourself. Look for local breeders or someone local who has done it before. It's not overly simple, but it's electricity. If you're not comfortable doing it yourself, or you're not 100% sure how it should be done, I don't recommend "trying it".

Are you talking about the clips and gaurd set? Im trying to figure out what gauge wire everyone uses. I keep seeing people recommending extension cords but there is a huge variety of gauge differences in the wiring from one to the next.

Just to clarify im replacing the cord on my racks with tape (tired of the cord failing and tape heats better anyways). Ive done electrical work before and have the end plugin I will be running to the thermostat but between each shelf from end to end there is no indication on what wire the manufacturer reccomends. Too thin and it will burn out/overload and pose a fire hazard and too thick is a waste of money as well as other complications. I was really kind of suprised in all the pdfs on flexwatt they never have a reccomended wire for it listed.

Have you already ordered your flexwatt? I really like just asking Reptile Basics to do it for me. It's worth the little price, I promise you that! And there no questions about whether or not you did it right. I have one rack I wired each shelf myself, and one rack beside it I snaked the flexwatt through each level and asked Reptile Basics to wire, it only has one set of wires. It's so much cleaner and safer.

I use 16 gauge lamp cord from Lowes or Home Depot.
    I also solder everything.
