any ideas on what this could be still eats and that’s normally most of the time but every now and again when it’s definitely not shedding. Pushing its chin and face into the bark and then sometimes open the mouth headshaking like there’s something stuck in its mouth, but I can’t see anything

A backup thought was seizures but I don't think that's it. More will arrive for help!

How long has he been doing this? He doesn't seem to be in distress. So, I would just monitor it for now. If it continues and you can't figure out the cause, then I'd take him to see a vet.
