I know most of you probably don't do this, but...
Has anyone tried to litter train their rats to help achieve a longer period of time between cleanings? If so did it work for you? Was it hard to do? I am thinking of trying this, mainly to increase the time between full-out cage cleanings.

I've litter trained two females successfully a couple years back, but haven't tried since. I can't imagine it being possible in a rack system, but in individual cages, it's more likely. Males will still mark all over and are more difficult. I've noticed the girls like to go pee at the bottoms of ramps

I don't have a rack system...yet... I have most of them in individual Rubbermaid tubs, converted into cages, 2-3 to a tub. Except for the maternity wards... just 1 mom and her babes per tub. No ramps, just hides and hammocks. I also have 1.3, which will be 0.3 come Monday, in a large multi-level wire cage. I really don't like the wire cages. They are clumsy to clean and my Agouti Berkshire hurt her foot on one of the ramps last week. :(

So I guess I'll give it a try. Even if i can only get the girls trained, that will still save me a lot of work. ;)

The neat thing about racks is the accessibility of the babies and the adults.
I really like my sideways rack the most of the regular racks but the momma racks also are really nice to work with.
The racks I use cost about $50 to $60 to build depending on which style and how many tubs, the 6 tub momma racks cost about the same.

This is a 9 tub I built for momma rats, cost was around $80(tubs are $5.50 each)

Are there plans for the 9 tub momma rack somewhere? Or could you share your plans? :please: This set up looks like it would be great for my ladies! A it would save so much room!

I don't have plans, I got the 6 tub rack from a buddy who designed it and just modified it.
All of our racks are at my partners for the time being so I can't just grab measurements right away either :( but I could get them soon and post them or pm them to you.
They are simple to build, air tools make it a bunch easier ;)
