Can I ask how big he currently is? And how big do scrubs typically get?

I know you weren’t asking me, but mine is between 9 and 10 ft. She’s longer than my retic who measured 9ft. I want to get out and measure her exactly, but she never cooperates anyway. I think generally like 13ft on average, but they’ve been known get over 20ft. It also depends on your locality and such.

How would you compare their behavior, fear, and curiosity to a retic or carpet? They remind me a lot of carpets looks wise.

i think they behave quite differently to other species. I have no carpets but I can compare to retics. This is a comment I made in my retics thread comparing them:

    Quote:

    Huge differences!

    • Retic is sweet once tapped with the hook, scrub will bite you if you look at it.
    • The trick to handling the scrub is be quick and confident. The scrub is the fastest snake I’ve ever seen, unless you catch it before it’s ready. Open the cage and bam grab it. If you try that with a retic, you’re food.
    • Growth rate is not too dissimilar actually, I’d say without the hard numbers in front of me. However, I am stunned how fast my scrub is growing. It is longer than my retic, and my retic is 9ft. Based on the rate of growth, I wouldn’t be surprised if I end up with an impressively sized scrub.
    • Feeding patterns are quite different too. Scrub goes on and off food periodically. I switch between rats and quail. It will not eat during shed. It will also not eat with me in the room; I leave the food overnight. Retic will eat anything, anytime with ferocity.

In conclusion, get a retic! My scrub is an awesome and impressive snake, but it is not a replacement for a retic, IMO. Plus, you can pick up some nice looking morphs for way too cheap. Retics probably should not be that accessible lol

I only have one scrub, I don’t keep retics, but I do have a few carpets. I think carpets and scrubs both make good display animals and are reliable feeders but the similarities end there for me. They move a lot differently. Scrubs are really fast and have a very long strike range. I’ve see some pretty mellow scrubs but mine is much more defensive than my carpets ever were. I’ve had him for a little over two years now and he’s gotten much better but definitely not as trustworthy as my carpets. I’ve accepted the fact that he prefers to be left alone so I don’t bother him too much. My carpets I can take out on any given day.
