    Garter snake body shape.
    Hi!
My red-sided garter snake, Noodle, seems a little fat to me or is it normal for an adult female? It seems she has some scale spread. Can she be gravid?
It's my first adult snake, I don't know what to expect...
    Thanks!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...312c9e7fb2.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...96e199850a.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...d14f411397.jpg

She is gravid I'm guessing definitely looks like it so get ready for babies.

Alright, I'll set up something just in case, thank you! What's the difference between a gravid and a fat one?

Have you bred her and are expecting her to be gravid?

She looks a little big but I wouldn’t call her fat. Garters can be pigs. What’s her diet?

How long have you had her? Has she been bred before that you know of? Even if that last answer is "no", garters are known to have reproduced by parthenogenesis,
so it's possible. Snakes can also retain fertilization from previous matings for some # of years too, so that's another possibility. I too would wonder about her diet &
amount of food before hazarding a guess. ;)

I've adopted her and a male 1 year and a half ago and there're in the same enclosure since then. They were young so I don't think so.

I feed her silversides (5 to 7), frogs' legs ( 1 pair) or sometimes heart every week.
I hope that's not too much!
They have multivitamins once every month.

In that case I say she's gravid. I've not kept garters so I can't speak for how much they eat, but keeping a male & female together is asking them to breed & they're
mature enough to do so, though it's generally better to keep snakes apart until they're fully grown...early reproduction can stunt the females growth or even shorten
her life span. Hope all goes well, & hope you can get tiny enough food for the babies you're likely to have. ;)

Thanks for all the replies! I hope everything'll go well for Noodle. I might separate them in the future, don't want to exhaust her...
Everything's set up in case of baby noodles :D
