Hello I'm a new PB owner and I'm trying to decide which substrate to use. If you have a free min I'd like to know what you use and why. Thanks

PAPER TOWELS!! bc they're cheap, easy to clean, and multi-purposed =p.

    Re: Substrate?

Here are some great substrates that you can use for your BP:

Aspen Bedding- very easy to spot clean when using this substrate and is pretty cheap to buy.

Cypress Mulch- if you live in an area with low humidity this substrate helps keep in humidity and is great to use.

Coconut Husk- easy to spot clean and if you live in an area with low humidity this substrate works very well at keeping in the humidity.

Paper towels/Newspaper- easy to spot clean and very cheap to use.

Here are some substrates that you should not use for your BP:

Pine- has oils in it that can be extremely harmful to your snake.

Cedar- has oils in it that can be extremely harmful to your snake.

Sand/Soil- easily can cause impaction if injested.

Newspaper or paper towles. They are cheap and are easy to clean.

I used to use aspen, but after keeping them on newspaper and seeing how much liquid is left behind after they pee, I will only use newspaper/paper towels. There is no way I would feel comfortable that I had removed all the soiled bedding on a particulate substrate.

    Re: Substrate?

Does anyone use newspaper pellets? Like Yesterday's News cat litter? I've heard of people who use carefresh, but never seen anyone mention newspaper pellets, and I'm thinking of trying it out.

If your using a glass enclosure, go with cypress mulch or coconut husk. If you plan on using a tub, use paper or aspen.
