    Tiny hatchling, lots of yolk

Last week I need to pull a funky moldy slug egg from a clutster. In the process I tore an egg a little. The egg was small, not shaped right, and all in all just looked like a waste of time. I slit it a little to see if it was worth keeping (this is day 50 of incubation by the way) and inside was a tiny albino with a very large yolk sac still attached. Now today at day 53 I have 2 albinos, and 2 hets that have come out fully but this baby is still attached to the egg sac. I have it in a seperate container to hopefully keep the possibility of flies getting in my other eggs to a minimum, and I even put the leftover goo from the other eggs on it to keep it moist. The baby appears to be breathing on his own, there were lots of bubbles around his head which he also keeps verticle in the egg just like the others that pipped. The veins that surround the membrane are gone, just like any egg that goes full term and pips on its own, and other than the yold looks fine. The little guy is a bit active, drawing his head in and out, he just has that sac attached. I want to keep his the little runt alive, what do I do?

The other hatchlings are pretty large, this guy is about half the size, hope he makes it!

If the baby does come out with the yolk still attached then keep it in a container with moist paper towels in the bottom he should be able to soak it all up on his own. If he hasn't within a few days then you can try "twisting" it off. Just be careful. He should be ok though. In my experience smaller ones take longer to "eat" their yolk. Hope everything goes well!

    Hi,

Tieing it off is the way I've seen it described to seal off the blood vessels etc.

Just twisting it off would probably kill it I think.

Re: Tiny hatchling, lots of yolk

I just left him alone, and he was hanging out in the bottom of the hatch box yesterday morning. I ended up with 4 albinos and 2 hets.

The runt weighed in at a whopping 21 grams! He is very active, and I dont see any problems with him. Hopefully he makes it, I want to hold him back to breed with an 05 male het hypo that only weighs about 400 grams. He eats like a pig too, maybe I can produce some dwarf balls DH for sunglow between them, lol

Form the pictures looks likes hes healthy and should do good once started on food

With him being that small i would try and feed him a large fuzzy and see how that works out. If its too small then try a hopper. But hell grow up fast enough.
