Any Western Pygmy Rattlesnakes in Wise county Tx?
Just wondering if anyone has ever seen an Pygmy Rattlesnakes in this county. I own 33 acres in this county. Distribution maps for this species show them to range much of this county. I have looked and looked for them with no luck of finding them. I understand this is a very touchy subject with herpers. I know how it is, some people dont want to give up this information, so if this be the case with anyone and you dont want everyone to see please please please just pm me so we might be able to talk.

I'm not sure why you would want to know if people see the pygmy rattlers in your county.
Are you trying to catch them, or are you trying to sell them?

I'm not aware of any, but I really really really hope no one's gonna come in on this thread and tell you!
Please, can you add to tell anyone to just PM you with any possible information and not put it out in a public thread.
If some bonehead does come in and post it in this thread, please please please have the mods remove it ASAP!
EDIT: I'm not attacking you, I'm attacking any people that are even thinking about posting the information in this thread.

Western Pygmy Rattlesnakes are not the most common animals, and many of these animals are prone to collection and poaching. You really want to keep any populations a secret for this reason. You also don't want a bunch of herpers flooding this area. Not only because it'd be annoying, but you could also have the idiot who doesn't put logs, rocks, and AC back in place.

Re: Any Western Pygmy Rattlesnakes in Wise county Tx?
If you go back and read my original post I did ask for someone to PM me on the subject. I use venomous reptiles for educational porpouses with the Texas Department of Transportation. They come across lots of snakes while working. I do not have any Western Pygmys, and they are in Wise, Montague and one other county in North Texas. The rest are far east Texas. I would never sell a snake that I collect from the wild. The only snakes I sell are my boas and balls. I am not new to this I understand this is a pretty touchy subject. I was just hoping someone could give me some more exact info on their whereabouts. This snake would complete my Texas Collection. I live in Wise County. I have been looking for over a year, nearly every weekend durring the spring through fall months. I know of spots that look really good but have not produced snakes. I just was hoping someone could give me a city in Wise county. If by the end of the season I dont find one I will just by one they are only $30-50. I hope I answered anyones question.....
AND YES PLEASE PM ME WITH ANY INFO.

I completly agree with you also Matt, I know why people keep these things secret. Look at West Texas Herpering for example. I really didnt expect good results from this post. What I expected were a bunch of replies telling me to beat it, and that is exactly what I have got so far. This was just a last ditch effort before I break down and buy one. If it were me I would not tell just anyone either. Like I said I have been doning this a while I know the rules when I comes to Herping.

Yeah, MK, I know you put it in your first post. I'm just worried about some knucklehead coming in here.
They're not only in far east texas. They're relatively far west, I know of one locale that's produced quite a bit. I will be going there pretty soon with a friend, I'll post photos if I find one. Mid-september through october is their breeding season. I know you've had a drought, so have we, but if you get some rain during that time, try cruising around dusk. My friend tells me that's the only time he's ever seen them, so I'd just do that when the conditions are right.
I'm sure you know what to look out for, but in case you don't, here are some variables: very little moon, low pressure area, right after or before rain, dusk or dawn.
Good luck.

Re: Any Western Pygmy Rattlesnakes in Wise county Tx?
Thanks for the info. I knew that it was a bad time right now. Although I did get a Desert Massasauga at my uncles place four hours west of here about two weeks ago. I will try again in the fall. It is just too hot right now. I have been out right after rain, during light rains, when rain is in the distance, no rain, full moon, no moon, you name it I have been out looking. The only thing I think I am doing wrong is getting out to late. I think they are a earlier snake. Like around 6-9 pm what. What do you think? I have been treating them like they were Massasauga's, as far as time. They are pretty close snakes. Where in Texas are you from?
