Re: Why is it important to cover sides of BP tank?

It helps them feel more secure in their tank I have the back and sides covered in mine and I noticed a big difference between when I had them covered and when I didn't. In the beginning he would roam day and night. Since I have covered them he is nice and content during the day in his hides.

There are two things it's good for actually:

1- it makes the snake feel more secure and not out in the open. Tanks have clear glass on all sides that are transparent, making the snake feel not that secure because they feel more out in the open.

2- it makes the background of the enclosure look nice xD

It can also help to insulate the tank.

I used to think that was normal, that the snake was just getting some snakey exercise. Alas, it's just about the opposite of what they should be doing: Curled up, out of sight.

Here's the thread I started earlier today about my discovery of how important hiding and its sense of security is to a BP: http://www.ball-pythons.net/forums/s...ad.php?t=99253 It doesn't mention the sides of the tank also being covered, but I did that too, along with adding the newspaper. It has made a world of difference!

I used aquarium "wallpapers" that you can get in any fish store/department... like this one on Toby's tank:

(I didn't even need to cover these walls, since they're solid - but it was too cute to resist! )

And here are my old tanks for Mona & Delilah, who are now in tubs:
