Will this be ok?
I'm planning to get my first snake (ball python ^_^) in a couple weeks and now am getting ready to set up its cage. I was wondering if a "Zoo Med 10 to 20 Gallon Heat Pad" will suffice in heating a 20g long glass tank by itself without a lamp. My usual roomtemp is around 75-85 in summer, maybe 65ish in winter. I live in Connecticut if that makes a difference. If it isn't, what about two, one on either side. One set on a higher temp for the hot side, the other set lower for the cooler side?
Also can you guys tell me your opinions on these products im thinking of getting?
"Alife 1000 watt electronic thermostat with probe"
"Zilla Digital Thermometer / Hygrometer with probe"
And um.. I know I had a few more questions but im completely blanking out right now.
Thanks for any help!

Eh, that thermostat doesn't really look to good. I don't think I have even seen one before. I as well as many others have used the reptitemp 500r with no problems.
As for heating, one UTH should be fine in the summer, but in the winter you might need a lamp or a room space heater.

I use an 11''x11'' ultratherm heat pad with a similar type of thermostat in one of my 20 gal. It works well for me, in the winter though I'll sometimes use a 75 watt blue light for extra warmth. My house can get pretty cold to.

Re: Will this be ok?
It sounds like my summers and winters are very similiar to yours -- I live in Minnesota. I just got my ball and setup a few months ago, so I haven't had to go through a winter yet. However, I do have mine set up with a uth on both sides. I am using 11" flexwatt cut to size for each side (so there probably is only about 5 inches of floor space in the middle that isn't heated).
I am using a herpstatII (I know it's a lot of money, not saying that's what you need, that's just what I have). I have one side set at 80, and the other 92 (and my ambients usually don't fall below 75).
You could go with one uth, and then supplement it with a night lamp or cht in the winter, but then you risk sucking all of the humidity out of the cage.
Hope this helps,
George

Where do ya live in MN? I use normal heat pads but I have enough snakes in the snake room and other things heating it up that my room temp is close to 80. I also got a space heater to run on those real cold days.
