Re: questions?
Their husbandry is about the same as a ball python. Some things are different, but they are close. I suggest looking up a care sheet on here for them. Most boas I have dealt with (which is not a lot) are docile like most ball pythons too, but like I said, I have a limited experience with them.
I am sure a 55 gallon show or long would work for one, but I always advise against an aquarium for larger snakes. There are some made specially for them with sliding, latching tops that are good, but humidity is hard to maintain in them.
As for price, you can find normal common red tails on Kingsnake.com for around $50-60 plus shipping for babies.

I can see that you have limited experience.
Boas are much different than balls.
They are much much more outgoing and "curious" if you will. Their feed response is ten fold that of a ball. Food aggression is not uncommon with boas.
My 7' girls will eat your face for a rat.
As far as a 55 gallon, if it is in fact a 55 (48"x12") That is indeed enough room, but you may have a hard time getting your temps right.

Re: questions?
theres a reason my boas nick name is garbage disposal...my GF's BP went off feed for a while so she got some small mice..i would barley have to open her tub and she would snipe them..they have a pretty good striking distance for feeding..use tongs

Re: questions?
I've found with mine he's much more open to being handled and not headshy at all unlike my ball. His feeding response is scary, I barely had the mouse in his container and he had it coiled in no time. Saw it, sniffed it, and struck. My ball stares at the food for quite some time before he strikes.

Re: questions?
I dont know... I wouldnt trade one snake for a different snake. I would ONLY get one if you could afford to ADD it to your collection. But thats just me.

Re: questions?
55G Is a good size and price range can go anywhere from 75-7000 just depends on the morph you want and where you live.

Yeah, more outgoing. Sorry I did not put that in there, but my boas are all pretty nice. They are curious and crawl around on me a lot when I have them out, but do not try to get away, and are not nippy at all, at least the four I have are not. Some localitys of them can be bit more agressive I have heard, but even in the book (and I hate quoting books) The Complete Boa, it is said that they are "wonderful shoulder pets" and that has been my limited experience.
Yes, they have a more agressive feeding response. I have one that, if fed PK or FT she will come and lightly take it out of the tongs. No strike at all. If live tho, she tears it up.
And yes, my experience is limited, but I still believe that what I said is true. A boa is in no class of temperment as a retic or other more agressive snake, but individuals do vary I guess.
