    ASF Racks?

I know about Deb's PDFs for the mice rack and rat rack, but does anyone have anything for the thicker bus/concrete tubs?

I want to make a few racks, because we are moving from the townhouse into a smaller apt and will not have the garage like I do now, so there will be no space for 10g tanks everywhere.

I looked through the caging and DIY stickies and found the large tub set-up and the mice racks, but no rack DIYs for the thicker tubs.

Hopefully somebody can point me in the right direction, I would like to build one this week.

I wouldn't use those tubs for asf unless you plan to watch them closely

it is a good design for rats....but the tubs used vary in size and shape so much...the gaps allowed can be big. Asf tend to be chewers if given the chance.

    Re: ASF Racks?

    I just bought these...

    http://www.webstaurantstore.com/21-2...0%20%20BK.html

they are smaller and have ridges...

I will try them for rats but once again...asf, I don't think I would.

I would lean towards cat litter pans.

Downfall is the lack of height, asf hoppers are fast and can jump.

    Re: ASF Racks?

I bought the concrete tubs... I need racks for mice and ASFs so worst case scenario is I use them for just the mice.

I looked at prices of 2x2's at Lowes and they are nearly $5 each, so I went to Home Depot and got 10 2x4x10 and I am simply going to rip them in half and they were just under $2 each, so I saved nearly $50 just on wood alone.

I will take pictures as I go and post it up.

    I can't get 10' 2x4's here for some reason

but yes, ripping the 2x4's down seems like a good idea...its what I do also.

    Re: ASF Racks?

wow here in miami the 2x2 are like 1.59 or something like that.....I have made a few of those mentioned in the arb website with concrete tubs and are great...key to any of these is NO GAPS...any space they can sink their teeth and the hole is emminent........I like the new ones that lowe's carry now.......much stronger and nice.....make sure to buy a few extras cause u might need them and don;t want the desing changed like it happened to me on 2 racks.
