    Snakes...heck of an addiction...

    Snake addiction has struck me...

Currently I have a 4 month old Normal Python, and a Leopard Gecko...

It all started with the Gecko...

    Then the BP

Now I have three mice and trying to breed them...(Even though i have just one snake, I'm breeding more for fun than food...I already have a petshop that will take them all if it gets out of hand...)

Now I am contemplating whether my next purchase be a BP Morph (Albino, or Mojave)

    or a Red Tail Boa...

So i have a few questions regarding the maintenance of a RTB

I'm really digging Brandon's (SSJSMITS) Peruvian ...if thats what it is...Yes Brandon I've been stalking your snake...

I was wondering how big would a male get? Research tells me 7.5 - 10 feet...To me it looks like

And what size enclosure would a full grown male require? I'm not big on the whole tub thing...and I would prefer a boaphile or a tank...

And also from what I read...XXXL Rats are ok and rabbits are not necessary as far as feeding is concerned...

    Please advise

    and thank you in advance!

I would imagine female peruvians bcc getting very large. From what I have read they get much larger than other red tails, such as the columbians. I know others with much more experience will help you out!

    Re: Snakes...heck of an addiction...

I bought two columbians and built a double cage, each enclosure in it 6X2X2 and now I have a third columbian that I have to keep in my rack system now, untill I build yet another enclosure for her. Addicting is correct. I have seven balls at this time and three red tails. I would have more red tails if it were not so space consuming in the house.

Peruvians get quite big, but I'm a little more familiar with the big females compared to the slightly smaller males.. older females get get MASSIVE.

How big will a male get on average?, and as far as size enclosure, if i was to have it in a tank, how many gallons would a full grown need?

    Re: Snakes...heck of an addiction...

http://www.redtailboas.com/general_c...eral_care.html has some great information on red tailed boas

or you could find BP.net's very own BCI care sheet here http://www.ball-pythons.net/modules/...warticle&id=13

Both these will probably have a lot of information to help you out.

A full grown male BCI, according to BP.net's care sheet should get 5'-8'

With this size snake, I think you would need an enclosure that is about 4' long by 2' deep, or if you insist on using a tank about 75 gallons.
I encourage you to build your own enclosure or housing device. Doing this is very rewarding and you can meet the specifcations that you need. You will be able to provide the type of heat source you want, you will be able to control the humidity the way you want, and you make alterations more easily (say you want to add on a shelf, you could just drill something in place. You could probably do all of these things with either a tank or a custom built enclosure, but a custom built enclosure is going to be more flexible.

I am thinking that rats will be able to do for the boas lifespan. Maybe if you get one on the higher end of the weight/length distribution you might have to feed something larger.

As for addiction, I think I've been moderately buying herp and herp related things, I couldn't stop at just one though

Feel free to correct me on my grammar.
