This is a new one on me

One of my male pythons who has been a picky eater in the past so is small for his age tonight did something I have never seen a ball do before. I put a live small rat in with him and he kind of hide under him self from it. Which is normal for him it takes him a little to figure out it is food not something to eat him lol...any ways the rat got a little curious about the coils of snake and decided to check out the middle of the coils. The male python never struck at the rat and just decided to coil around him and suffocate him with out ever biting him. after the rat is dead the snake decided to eat it butt first but still never seen a snake constrict and kill with out striking or biting till it was dead. The snake is fine just never seen it happen before was a little worried at first that the rat would fight back but it never even really twitched let alone struggled..
