Asking For Too Much?

So on craigslist I have my BRB for an adoption fee of $180 the store price when I got it as a baby was $260. I knocked off a lot of money because one its not a brand new baby nor do I know the sex of the snake. its still high (for a craigslist adoption fee some might say) because one its a sub - adult eating small rats and two because online breeders dont sell their babies for less than $115 (the one I deal with) so I'm sure if he had my sub adult it would be more than the amount I'm selling him/her for.

Now someone tried to offer me $50 for this snake lets keep in mind unless you go to an exotic pet store (which there are none in my state but they are in surrounding states) or a professional breeder (which usually dont sell many snaks as sub adults unless they cant get rid of them as babies) you wont see many rainbow boas up for sale. So my fee also includes the fact of convience (sp) and that I'm only 15 minutes away from buyers rather than so many hours away you'd have to cross state lines.

am I asking for too much on craigslist you think?

Hi,

It is explicitly against craigslists terms and conditions to use it to sell at all.

If you plan on asking for an actually reasonable resale price I would think putting it on a reptile classifieds site would have been the way to go.

CL is generally used to re-home animals for a moderate fee, trying to find them a good home, not to sell them so $180 is not really what most would consider a modest re-homing fee.

If you want to sell your animal then you need to use kijiji.com

Well the first question is where did you post it on CL (what category)? If you posted under pets, then yes selling is against CL policy and it says a reasonable re-homing fee. I would think 180 is too much for an adoption fee. However if you list it in the "for sale" category (maybe under general) then you can sell and ask what you want, only not as many people will probably look there for animals. But there are plenty of people on craigslist that are looking to buy animals at savings and don't mind paying a reasonable sales price when they know it's a deal. I would say list it in general for sale and see what you get. Good luck

thanks for all the responses. Craiglist never states what a small rehoming fee might be in consideration to the animal being adopted it out. But I understand the views of all. Thanks again.

Yes, CL does state that $100 is the highest you should be rehoming an animal for. They are mostly geared toward cats and dogs, and think that the fee should only be that high for the coverage of Vet bills, or if the animal is fixed or micro-chipped. Plus reptile adds seem to get flagged really fast.

Although, recently I've been seeing a LOT of bp morphs popping up all over CL for $200+.

I would never, ever use CL to rehome my animals. there are wayyy too many crackheads on there that I know would so poorly neglect my snakes!!! 99% of people browsing that section of CL for a snake, are looking for a free or very cheap pet reptile fast so they can impress their friends, and then forget about it in a few months or so poorly neglect it, and feed it once a month that it passes away. I would not at all expect someone browsing CL to even know what a BRB is, let alone properly care for one. I say, find a different method and find it fast!!! For the health of your snake!!

Speaking of that, I just checked craigslist and found this:

Apricot Pueblan Milksnake - $250 (Youngsville, La)

Now i'm going to flag it so it gets removed. Only because the person selling it is obviously moronically challenged. Those snakes are like $45 on KS.
