New to snakes...
Hey all! In truth, I'm a newt and salamander person, and have much more experience on that topic. Recently, however, I've become fascinated with ball pythons and as a result have been considering getting one of my own. I found this forum while researching and it seems like a great, friendly place to find the information I'm after. Thanks!

Re: New to snakes...
Fantastic that your researching BEFORE getting a ball python. That is very responsible of you. Many people (including me) did not research quite as much as they should have when they plunged into the hobby.
Beware, snakes can become very addicting. Started with one, then two, now I have 22!
Let us know if you have any questions, there's a lot of knowledgeable keepers and breeders on this website who will be happy to help you out.
The only current advise I have for you is to purchase from a quality breeder either online or at a show. Avoid petstores if all possible.
Welcome to the site!

Thanks everyone! The pet store issue is just the same with newts/salamanders- avoid them at all costs and buy CB juveniles whenever possible.

Welcome to BPNet, Nathan. I'll echo the sentiment that it's wonderful you are doing your research prior to actually purchasing your first ball python.
If you haven't discovered it yet, here's our BP caresheet....

Other than purchasing from a breeder over a pet store which you seem well versed on, I'd suggest you get the enclosure up and dialled in prior to the snake arriving. Check our threads or ask about enclosure options as again, pet stores are not the most cost effective or correct way to do it. A lot of members here have found very nice shortcuts to provide the proper home for their BP without ruining their budget.
When it comes to breeders feel free to ask around, use our business inquiries area or check at the link below to make sure the breeder you choose is reputable. We're blessed to have both professional and hobbyist breeders as members here at BPNet.
