    Moment of Brilliance!

    Well, kinda!

Chick-fil-A brought in lunch for us today as a thank you for a successful roll-out of our POS systems in their locations (when you go there, it's our equipment and software that they use to take your orders).

In any case, I finished my fruit cup and was about to throw away the container when I went....wait....these are PERFECT to turn into water dishes for the hatchlings!! Just solder a nice large hole in the lid and I'm golden!

So, my co-workers humored me and all dug their empty containers out of the trash and started dropping them off at my desk. We all had 2 of those containers a piece (fruit cup in one, brownie in another).

I've got 14 new hatchling water dishes! Wooot!

I use jello shot cups from the party supply store for hatchlings and leopard geckos. If you really want to get creative, a dab of glue on one of the lids with the container on top make it much harder to tip over. I get about 250 for about 10 bucks

Isn't it great to get those "a-ha" moments? You should see what it's like for us scrapbookers/paper crafters. Our families know to ask if we want certain things before throwing them away, LOL!

I'm starting to get sucked into that snakey way of thinking too. For the first time in my life I looked at Rubbermaid containers at Target as snake homes, LOL!

Actually, here's another good idea... I used to work at Subway (We used POS too) and their salad bowls would create good hides... They're pretty low though, I think. I haven't been there in a long time. If anyone stops by a subway just ask to see their salad bowls!

President`s Choice... makes a Missisipi Mud Pie, and the container it comes in a perfect hard black hide.

My neighbour eats one a week... and I walk past her recycling every Thursday AM.

Hence, every Thursday I acquire a new juvie hide. Good for snakes 300-550g

Butter containers make the best shelters!

Some one should make a thread dedicated just to cheap husbandry innovations. I think everyone could use it.

I'm always looking at how things can be modified for the snakes. All my hides are either plastic flower pot saucers, plastic cereal bowls and kitty litter pans for the adults.

While I was washing these little dishes tonight, I decided that the dish part can also be used as a hide for the hatchlings - I have a co-worker at the other end of the building that was collecting them for me from her group and I'm picking them up from her on Monday - and when she told them what I needed them for - one girl left me a message because she wants to get her son a ball python for his birthday, so I even found a home for one of my normal male hatchlings!

    Very productive day!
