How old do I have to be to volunteer..

I was thinking of trying out volunteering and reptile shops because I really like working with reptiles and I have no problem cleaning out dirty enclosures I'm 13, turning 14 on November 1st. How old do I have to be to volunteer at a reptile shop or am I already old enough to be able to volunteer? I don't really care if I get payed or not.. I just will enjoy being close to reptiles and making their enclosures clean

I would say 15 1/2 when you can get a workers permit, but I would ask the reptile store you would want to volunteer at and see what they say.

your best bet would be asking around at local shops and getting an answer from them. As long as you act mature, age should be no issue, especially if your voluntering.

Child labor laws and insurance requirements will be your enemies until you're a couple years older.

You may do better finding a breeder who needs a helper than trying in a retail environment.

i think it depends what state you live in. I got a job a month after i turned 14 because my sister worked there

Actually regardless of how mature she might act or how she presents herself her age will likely be an issue for any store owner, it is a liability issue which applies whether she tries to get a job or even volunteer.

Also laws vary from state to state.

Many people tell me I act mature for my age because I'm not all hyper and I don't act immature like many people do at my school that are my age, and even older. I'm more of a chill person, and have no problem talking to adults. I talk best when the subject is about snakes.

In Arizona, the restrictions on employment pertaining to minors aged 16 and under are:
• they may work no more than 40 hours in one week when school is not in session or the person is not enrolled in any session
• they may work no more than 18 hours per week when school is in session
• they may not work more than 8 hours per day when school is not in session or the person is not enrolled
• they may not work more than 3 hours in one day when school is in session

Furthermore, no minor under 16:
• shall be employed at night (9:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. when school is in session, or 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. on a day preceding a day when there is no school)

Thanks very much this was helpful. Is volunteering the same as becoming employed? I thought that volunteering was doing something you enjoy without being payed. Also, I have a friend who is 15 and she volunteers at a day care. So, now I'm a little confused lol.
