    Hatchling Shedding Question

How long after hatching does it normally take a hatchling to go through his/her first shed? My mother in law has no clue about snakes and keeps telling me to feed my hatchling. I told her I had to wait till after she shed, so I'm wondering how long that takes. And she is a tiny tiny hatchling. Only 37g. Would I still feed her a fuzzy mouse, or something smaller?

    Re: Hatchling Shedding Question

They normally take between a week to 10 days to shed out. Once they shed I typically offer them food within a few days of getting settled. For a 37 gram baby Something like a rat crawler or even a micro mouse should be fine. I've started all my hatchlings this year on rat crawlers and haven't had an issues with them handling them

    Re: Hatchling Shedding Question

She hatched out on the 7th, so she's only 3 days old. 4-7 days then. Thanks!

I have a hard time picturing this little girl eating anything larger than a mouse fuzzy. I'll take a picture of her in comparison to something today and post it. She so tiny!

    Re: Hatchling Shedding Question

Normally between 7-12 days. Don't be alarmed if she doesn't eat the first time offering her a mouse hopper or a rat fuzzie.
