keeping female and male together
Hi !
I was given a big female last weekend for adoption, along with a 55 gal tank.
So I have a 3 1/2 male already. Finally, the couple.
I'm not worried about the breeding, but for space reasons, I placed them together in the same tank.
Being these guys shy, could this stress them, or make them stop eating ?
It would be better for me if I could leave them togheter, you know, for space reasons. The female ate the same weekend with no shows of fear or stress.
But in the long run ?
Thanks for your advice !
NO PAIN, NO GAIN!!

Re: keeping female and male together
Hi,
Well to be honest it can cause problems and doesn't really have all that much in the way of a positive to outweigh them.
We generally advise sticking to one snake per enclosure whenever possible.
Have a read through our caresheet and see if it raises any questions you'd like to ask.
Also have a look at some of the threads discussing the different housing options to see if that suggests any new options. You could probably fit 6-10 snakes individually in a rack in the same space taken up by the 55 gallon tank.
The thing I am most worried about with cohabitation however you have already exposed yourself too.
If the female had any infectious problems you just exposed your male to as well.
We normally recommend a quarantine persion of 60-90 days in a seperate room with no shared equipment and taking precautions to avoid any transmission of diseases.

A quarantine would have been in the best interest of your male snake!!
