So on june 20 my young jcp, Stang, went missing when somehow the latch on his cage popped open. His cage was sitting on the top of my snake racks, only a couple feet away from the roof. My snakes are kept in the basement and it is unfinished. The ceiling is a maze of pipes and ducts and wires. Many if the pipes and ducts have space around them where they go into the ceiling. I was almost certain thst he would have found his way into one of these holes and would be lost in the ceiling, since he loves to climb and always heads upwards. For 2 weeks I would wake up to each little noise thinking it was him, I even freaked out at the sound of a plastic bag moving but was let down to find that it was a loose cricket. Bugger that, I can find a cricket but not my snake. I even scented the room with mouse by blowing a dead one with a hot hairdryer all over the place hoping the small would draw him out, but no luck.
Well today, 15 days later I decided to clean out some stuff in the garage. Its a nice day so I opened the garage door. For whatever reason I decided to look at the roof, habit I guess since when Im in the basement I endlessly stare it it in hope. Well I nearly keeled over in shock, could it be?!!!!!
There is a small coil hanging over the edge of the garage door opener, it was Stang! I immidiately grabbed the stool and climbed up and grabbed him. Obviously I scared the crap out of him becuase as fast as I grabbed him he bit me, he has never attempted so much as a slight strike before. He is very tame, not even all that headshy. I did'nt care I was just so glad to have him back.
Anyhow its unreal how he made it from my basement with his cage on the opposite end of where the garage is all the way up to a garage that is pretty much sealed off from the house. And on top of a garage door opener that hangs from the roof with no real way for him to climb up to it.Exept for the path he took that I can only think of being one way and will be explained in the video link.

this is stang

and this is where he was found, last pic shows the hole in the roof above the door opener

and this is the video explaining how I believe he got there.

This little gut is very lucky to be alive. He didnt have far to go to get into the next unit since the garages of the two are not sealed from each other nor are they sealed from the outside. Had I not decided to go in there today then im sure he would have disapeared outside or in the neighbors place where Id never have found him.
Anyway point to ths story is dont underestimate a snake, they can do things and go places you thought were impossible.
