Getting a pair of 08's, is it ok to house together? if so how long?
size of tank or tanks? Plan on eventually breeding them, however primarily going to be pets. thanks, "J"

housing them together can stress them out and cause a BUNCH of problems. not eating, if one gets sick so does the other etc.... its best to invest in seperate tanks. if you cant shell out the money for tanks right now than you can go to walmart or target and get tubs. they are 5$ and a really good secure habitat for them. a 32qt will be a good size for 08's.

Re: housing a Bp 08 pair....

You can house them together, but by doing so you face a wave of potential complications.
    Cons:
    1. Whose shed, whose poo? You will never really be sure who has shed and who has pooped or peed. I like to know that my animals are healthy and this is one way of finding out.

    2. Sickness. If one gets sick, they both get sick. If one has mites, they both have mites. Two sick snakes, two vet bills. Not so fun if you ask me.

    3. Possibility of going off feed. Many BPs when housed together develop some sort of "dominance" although its not really proven that it is dominance it is an easy way to describe it. One snake will stop eating and grow slowly and the other will keep eating and grow quickly resulting in a tiny snake and a huge snake living together.

    4. Premature breeding. Males get to breeding age much quicker than females and the fact of the matter is, males are going to try to breed the female. You can't control this unless you separate them. If the female becomes gravid too early, she could die from being egg bound.

    Pros:
    1. You only have to pay for one housing for the two of them.

To me, the risks outweigh the benefits so I keep all of my snakes separate. I believe they appreciate having their own rooms

Re: housing a Bp 08 pair....

Housing together sounds tempting. And when done I am sure the bp's appear like they enjoy it or its no big deal. In the long run competition for warm and cool spots etcetc will cause increase change for stress which is never a good thing.

I would not house together, seperate spaces are the best way to go
