Couple Breeding Questions..
I am currently looking for good sized females for this coming season '09-'10, and have a few questions to ask.
1. Would a June '08 female be ready or is that really stretching it? (Probably stretching it but thought I'd ask anyway)
2. Would an adult female that laid eggs this season be ready for the '09-'10 season or does she need a break?
Thanks in advanced.

I wouldn't count on it.

Some people breed for 2 years in a row with one year off. Some people like to give them a year on and a year off.
I've also heard that most adult females when they have their environments changed (shipping), will most likely not breed that year. I've always wondered about this though; does anybody have personal experience with this?

Re: Couple Breeding Questions..
Yeah what Rich said.
If you do find an 08 that is big enough to breed be careful. Some can just grow like weeds. Others have a possiblity of being powerfed. Which means they weigh 1500 g's but too much of it is fat, and unhealthy.
There is someone on here with a pin that has grown to almost breeding weight and I think she was an 08. Maybe he'll post a pic of her. She's purdy.

Yep!
I got in a het Hypo female that had been breeding. Got her in and poof locked once then just curled up in a corner and slept. I've gotten big BIG 2500+ grams girls in and they take months to a year before they'll breed.
Is this the rule?? NO! I've heard people say that shipping helps spur on the breeding. But it didn't for me.

Re: Couple Breeding Questions..
I've heard several larger scaled breeders discuss on Reptile Radio that in their experience, when they have to move their collection - even just to another room, they can count on their production being down that year. I distinctly remember reading that shipping breedable weight females can put them off for an entire year, but I can't remember where.

I guess you're experiencing the same fuzz that I am. I recall the same thing.

Wow I've never even heard that one before. That's a bit disappointing but now I know and if my female(s) won't breed this this year I will know why. Thank you.

Yes, this does seem to be the common belief. I have personally purchased or acquired most of my breeder size females as adults. I have had 3 produce the same year I acquired them Though I got 2 of them early in the year so they may have just had time to acclimate. the other one was just a huge virgin pet that i got from my local reptile store and was locking up in a couple months from when I got her. So yes it is possible but I personally would not bet on it, but that would not keep me from trying
As for the '08 I would personally wait until the '10-'11 season
