Het albino marker?
What is the het albino marker? I have 3 that are het for snow. Will they have the marker?

Re: Het albino marker?
If they are 100% hets, they may not have a "marker". It seems to only show up if they are from a het x het breeding (66% hets). That said, most of my 100% hets will have a white dot somewhere on the forehead. The 66% hets may have a few pure white scales somewhere on their body. These are 99% hets (if there is such a term). Hope this helps, but generally after you see a ton of hets and 66% hets you can pick the hets out of their siblings.

Re: Het albino marker?
That's weird that it would show up in het x het breedings only, no reason I can see why that would happen.
Afterall, the only difference between a 100% het and a 66% het is that it is that the 66%er needs to be proven out. A het is a het, %s are just likelihood.
I seem to recall a thread many months ago discussing a line of albinos that hets hatched out visually different in color.. pics were included, I seem to recall that the hets had a different color to them. However the visual difference disappeared after a shed or two. Or maybe I'm just confused and remembering something wrong.

Re: Het albino marker?
On another forum the boaphile explained that the marker is the eye color. The eye color is usually the color of the skin, but with hets it is lighter. it is easier to see in younger boas.

Re: Het albino marker?
Wow interesting!! I think it neat that their are animals that have a reliable Het marker. Really cool stuff!!

Re: Het albino marker?
Does this show up only on normal appearing boas? For example would it show up on a hypo or anery that are possible hets?

Re: Het albino marker?
I'd check my Anery 66% het Albino for markers but I just did a little maintenance on the rack she is in plus she is in shed. I think she'd try to tear my face off at the moment lol. Hey Jimi, do you know if that girl had any markers on her or am I going to have to attempt to look? The key word in that sentence is attempt.

Re: Het albino marker?
I've heard the eyes are also a good indicator. Apparently if the top of the eye is significantly lighter than the surrounding scales, especially when they are very young, then it's likely that you have a het albino.

Re: Het albino marker?
This "marker" is in no way an every time occurence at all. IF it has one of the "white scale" markers on it's body, you can be 99% assured it's het albino.
For example- In my recent litter from a Kahl Albino x Het Albino, all the normal lookers are 100% Het Albino, BUT of the 8 100% Hets only 6 of them have the marker. Does this mean the other two are some how NOT Het for albino? No, they are as much a het as the others. The forehead "white dot" is just something I've noticed comes up a lot in a Kahl x Het breeding. I didn't mean to confuse anyone at all. In the previous thread where this discussion started, I was just stating what I've noticed.
Now, for the Het x Het breedings. It has been a very long practice and proved theory that snakes with the random "white scales" on the body have a very good chance of being actual hets. This is not to say that the ones without the white marker are not hets, but the chances are more like 99% instead of 66% that they are indeed hets. It's just a theory that has worked for MANY breeders, including myself.
Jeff Ronne's theory- The "glowing eye" theory. He thinks that the hets are the ones with the eyeball that looks like it has a flashlight behind it shining out. I have neither proved this theory nor disproved it. It does however work very well for him. In a het x het breeding, it is true that the actual hets seem to "pop" out of the litter...meaning, they do stand out from the crowd when you're looking at the WHOLE litter. I've heard this is true with Het x Het sharps, Het x Het BW Caramels, Het x Het Leopards, and Het x Het Bloods.
I hope I cleared this up a little...and I really hope I didn't confuse anyone anymore, lol.
Scott---
I didn't notice any white scales on your anery, but anery's are hard to do this with because they are black and white. Not to mention she's extremely pale even for an anery.
Good luck looking though! lol
