Backup?
I am always thinking about what ifs.... What if I have an accident and get stuck in a hospital? What if a far-away friend becomes ill and I have to leave?
I am the only one in my family who is the least bit "reptile inclined". Nobody else wants anything to do with them.
I've been typing extensive care sheets for each of my reptiles going over everything from temps to cage disinfecting to handling. I've also included their health records, ages, sizes, and which quarantine tub goes to which snake.
Does anybody else have a backup plan in case you aren't there to care for the reptiles?

Re: Backup?
If something happened to me, my boyfriend knows how to care for the snakes. One of the normal males is his baby. Who would have known that three years ago this man was terrified of snakes. Other than that my brother could perform some basic husbandry on them for a while, or my family could rehome them should my BF and I perish. My parents aren't too fond of snakes so I know they wouldn't keep them.
My clan-
1.2 Human Children, 1.0 Boyfriend
2.4 Normal Ball Pythons, 2.0 Pastel Ball Pythons
1.0 Pinstripe Ball Python, 0.1 Spider Ball Python
1.0 Sable Ball Python, 0.2 Feline Royalty
0.1 Hyperactive Siberian Husky, 3.9 Breeder Mice

Re: Backup?
I have my boyfriend here in the rescue, and then an additional backup of four people to help.
Just this past year my body decided to beat me up for no reason and I found myself suffering some health issues. I'm very lucky to have the friends I have.
I also always have a complete list including medical needs etc kept with our veterinarian and with our local animal control (Our local ACO is very familiar with our houshold) and has been trained how to handle anyone if anything goes wrong. If you have a larger collection and are close with anyone on your local fire dept. It may be benificial to have an up to date listing and a "what to do list" with them also.
You never know. Always better to be prepared.
Just something to think about,
Rusty

Re: Backup?
Im in France right now (for a month), and the only luck I found was my 18 year old neighbor. I told him everything i know as well as I directed him to this forum! I know hes doing a great job...I do miss my snake though
I guess my tip would be to email them the caresheet as well, being that, in this case, feeding is the least of your worries...as long as the husbandry is set up right, I dont mind him missing a few meals till i get back. My snake eats only live, and i get worried of someone else feeding him.
