Humidity issues in tubs
I just build a rack (28qts and 41qts) and am running into some extreme humidity issues.
I am using 11inch Flexwatt with a Helix thermostat set to 94...my temps are pretty good and just need some minor probe adjustment (~91 hot side and ~84 cool side) but my humidity is in excess of 85%!
I made a bad decision of using Repti-bark so I took most of it out and replaced with some Aspen that I already had. I originally had only holes drilled in the front, but today I soldered some in the back and along sides. That helped somewhat, my humidity is hovering around 70%.
What else can I do to lower humidity? I'd like it to be in the 50-60% range.
Also, what is a reliable hygrometer? I bought 2 of the digital Accurite thermometer/hygrometer combos from Walmart but I can't either to give a consistent reading. If I want to see what the humidity currently is, I have to clear the max/min memory and then it will show the current humidity but only for maybe a minute before drastically decreasing. Like it will read 78%, but within a minute will drop down to 44% (probes are not moving). Both probes will read 44% until I clear the max/min memory. Right now I took a hygrometer out of another tank but I need a hygrometer with probe for the rack.
Anyone else have similar problems with the Accurite thermometer/hygrometer? Am I doing something wrong? Otherwise I'm going to return them and try to find a more reliable hygrometer.

The acurites don't read humidity through the probe, only through the unit itself.

If the humidity is too high in the tubs, keep making holes.

I ran into the same prob when I built my rack, I ended up putting over 200 holes in each tub. here is a photo

Where is your humidity hovering around for those tubs? I use a 34 qt tub. humidity is around 80. Adding more holes should be enough? I only have holes on one side.

Yes adding more holes will help considerably. Especially if you only have holes on one side.
