    Question Size of UTH?

Hey everyone! I have been watching my brother-in-law's BP (Monte) for a little while now, and have decided to take ownership of him. He's cool with it, and I am very excited.

Anyway, I am going to make a new viv for him. The current one sucks.

I have been reading tons of posts on this fantastic forum for a few days now. What I have in mind so far is a 20 gallon tank, a sheet of plastic for the wire mesh lid to keep in heat and humidity, foam for the back and 2 sides, repti-bark substrate, acu-rite thermometer/hygrometer from Wal-Mart, 2 exactly-the-same hides, water bowl, some fake non-toxic plants, some real baked wood, 2 Zoo Med UTH's, 2 ReptiTemp 500R's for the UTH's.

My issue: What size UTH's should I get? I am thinking medium for the hot side and small for the cool side. Opinions?

Also, if you see anything wrong with my supplies... could you let me know?

    Thanks!

I am wondering the same thing as I'm setting up a 20L.
    Welcome, btw!

If you already have 2 thermostat I would just get Flexwatt. It's cheaper than buying one of those pet store brands (Zoo-Med) and you can pretty much tailor it to your needs.

I'm not really interested in flexwatt. I would prefer to use 2 UTHs.

WHy do you need a UTH for your cool side? is it super cold in your place? Generally you just need a UTH for the size of the tank and put it on one side. That would be the hot side and the other side stay cool because there is no UTH on it. IF you place is overally cold a second UTH would work but shouldn't be needed otherwize IMO.

I don't keep my house heated to 80 degrees.

    Re: Size of UTH?

Would one med size (for a 30-40g tank) UTH be adaquate to keep a hot side and maintain cool temps in a 20L? I live in New England and my house doesn't have central air. Does anyone have a similar situation?

    Re: Size of UTH?

My personal experience dictates yes. You should be fine with a 30-40 gal UTH for a 20L tank
