Educating myself before I dive in

Just wanted to take a moment and say hello. I am currently a avid aquarium (fish keeper). Recently I picked up a Leopard gecko. I used to keep herps when I was younger and had great success. I am definately getting back into the hobby.

I will be doing research and look at what I need for a ball python. I have found that internet forums produce so much good knowledge compared to the local pet stores. It is much easier to learn from someone who has a passion for something.

Just thought I would say hi

Here is a few pictures when we first got our gecko. (We have since got his cage properly setup) We have also beefed him up a lil bit he was a little bit on the skinny side when we first got him

    here are day 1 pictures.

I will try and get some new pictures in the next couple days

    Thanks for your time

Welcome to the world of Herping, again!
I suggest getting a nice ball from a breeder, if you need some good breeders names let me know. You have to usually pay shipping, but it is much more worth it than getting a petstore animal.

Heres our sites really good caresheet if you need to get a nice set-up going.

Just reading that link was great for my information gathering.

I have contemplated buying from a breeder online. My biggest concern is I enjoy seeing first hand what I am about to purchase before I buy it. If I could find a good reliable captive born breeder in ohio I would definately make a 1-2 hour drive see a potential herp. I have about 3-4 spare aquarium at home I will start making a nice setup and I should be making a purchase in the next few weeks.

I would seriously consider a online breeder as well so if anyone knows trusted site members who run a breeder I would look into that.

    Thanks for your time Drew

Welcome to the Site. There are a number of trusted breeders that produce quality animals as well as providing excellent customer support. Some of the big time breeders are NERD, VPI, Ralph Davis, BHB.

There are also many small time hobbyists that are producing some amazing animals. You should always check a potential breeder on the BOI (Board of Inquiry) @ www.faunaclassifieds.com. There are unfortunately many scam artist in this hobby and the BOI is a great tool to stay informed.
