    What kind of thermostat?

    Here's my situation:

I have three heating devices. Two UTHs (hot/cool) and a CHE for ambient. I've been using rheostats for a while now, but I'm not impressed with the amount of adjustments I have to make.

I was thinking about getting a thermostat. Thinking cheaply, I was going to get two 500r's. (The CHE and cool UTH are usually at the same level on the rheostats anyways). Then, I would use the rheostats as a backup in case the 500r's failed. Would this be enough? I know people don't like them so much because of the temp fluctuations. Are they really that bad?

If I was to go higher quality, would my only other option be a Herpstat II? Can I plug in the CHE and a UTH into the same output? I know a Herpstat will minimize the temp fluctuations, but it is necessary since I'm not breeding or anything (I have one bp).

Are there any other thermostats that have two or more outputs?

    Re: What kind of thermostat?

I just got a new cage setup and purchased the HerpstatII. I was leary about spending that much money, but so far it has been absolutely amazing.

Right now I only have each output controlling one heating device each, but I'm quite certain you can hook up to three heat sources to each output. (There is an extension cord with 3 outlets for each output).

    Hope this helps!!

If you have any more ?'s about the Herpstat, Spyder robotics was really good with correspondence.

    Later,

    George

    Re: What kind of thermostat?

I want to get one so bad, but now that I am unemployed I'm not sure it's possible...
I checked Petsmart today, but no 500r's. I'll see what happens.

I was thinking about the 500r too, but then took the plunge. (I understand if money is the issue). Anyway, I checked Petco, and they wanted $50 for one.

If you want a 500r, check this out http://www.reptilesupply.com/index.php?cPath=30_74 That's the best deal I could find.
